More than $3 million raised in support of children with cancer
MONTRÉAL, July 8, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - A festive and euphoric atmosphere reigned today as the cyclists of the 21st edition of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau reached their destination after riding close to 1,600 kilometres throughout Quebec in the hope of putting an end to pediatric cancer.
The Tour's 10 spokespersons—Pierre Bruneau, Ginette Bruneau, Paul Doucet, Pierre Jobin, Eve Landry, Julie Marcoux, Luce Dufault, Alexandre Dubé, Hugo Giroux and Marie-Claude Sabourin—joined the 500 cyclists to celebrate the resounding success of this major cycling event, which raised the impressive sum of $3,050,000. The proceeds will go towards financing projects in the area of pediatric oncology.
Families, friends and colleagues gathered at Parc de la Mairie in Boucherville to welcome and congratulate the cyclists. Emotions were also running high among the seven young heroes of the 21st edition: for Audrey, Julymaude, Louis-Charles, Félix, Andy, Steven and Éloïse, the Tour is a huge source of support and encouragement.
"The perseverance, generosity and commitment of the participants have only increased over the years. These men and women not only inspire our partners and thousands of donors, but they also generate hope for more than 2,000 young people throughout Québec. I'm very grateful, and extremely touched," said an emotional Pierre Bruneau, spokesperson for the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau and cyclist in the 4-day leg of the Tour. "Fundamental research has generated a fantastic amount of scientific data. The challenge, in the years to come, will be to translate these data into a true cure with no adverse effects. A great deal of work remains, but by pulling together, anything is possible!"
The Trek for Hope got underway in Montréal on July 5, 2016, as 37 cyclists set out to ride close to 600 kilometres through Mont-Tremblant, Gatineau, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Boucherville, where they were joined by nearly 170 cyclists for the final leg of the Tour. The cities of Québec, Sherbrooke, Gatineau, and (for the second time) Boucherville also served as departure points for the four additional one-or two-day treks undertaken as part of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau.
Once again this year, the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau received indispensable support from CIBC. For Sylvain Vinet, Region Head & Senior Vice-President, Eastern Canada Region, Retail Markets, CIBC and Chair of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau steering committee, this association was perfectly natural.

Thanks to its major partners and cyclists, the event has generated over $18 million since 1995, trekking over 20,000 kilometres.
