Travelocity.ca Encourages Canadians to Enjoy a Winterruption From the Cold
Survey finds Canadians don't like winter as much as we think
TORONTO, Jan. 17, 2013 /CNW/ - As hockey lovers, chalet owners and parka wearers, Canadians are rumoured to embrace all things cold, but a new survey released by travelocity.ca reveals that for most Canadians, the Great White North's winters are more of a hassle, than a playground. Canadians are less than enthused about the season and 97 per cent shared at least one winter woe.

"Travelocity.ca knows that even a few restful days at the beach can provide a much needed break from the cold and break up the season," says Brian Simpson, Operations and Media Relations Manager at travelocity.ca. "To help Canadians get out of the cold and find the perfect beach vacation, we've launched the Travelocity.ca Winterruption Sale, with savings up to 50 per cent off a wide selection of sunny beach vacations and hotels."
WINTER WOES
Travelocity.ca survey data revealed that Canadians find slippery roads and sidewalks (23%), the cold weather (22%), and longing for sunlight during winter's dark months (21%) cause for the winter blues.
Shoveling snow is one winter chore few Canadians look forward to. In fact, 39 per cent of Canadians have gone to great lengths to get out of shoveling with some going as far as pawning this task off to a child or loved one (12%). But shoveling can be fun.
TRAVELOCITY.CA'S VACATION EXCAVATION CONTEST
"Travelocity.ca's Vacation Excavation contest puts the fun back into shoveling. By digging out the Travelocity Roaming Gnome, Canadians have the opportunity to win a much-needed trip for 2 to Aruba," says Simpson. "Those who enter the contest automatically receive a fifty dollar promotional code to use towards a hotel or Flight+Hotel booking during the Winterruption Sale. So the contest is a fun way to encourage Canadians to trade snow piles for sandcastles and escape to the sun."
Consumers can play in-person or online.

Survey Methodology
From January 8th to January 9th 2013 an online survey was conducted among 1,002 randomly selected Canadian adults who are Angus Reid Forum panelists. The margin of error—which measures sampling variability—is +/- 3.1%, 19 times out of 20. The results have been statistically weighted according to the most current education, age, gender, region, and education Census data to ensure a sample representative of the entire adult population of Canada. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.
