Local artisan bakery chain adds fourth and largest location yet
TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2017 /CNW/ - Local foodies and connoisseurs are following their nose to the irresistible scent of freshly baked goods from Mabel's Bakery, which opened today in Toronto's trendy Junction neighbourhood. The new 2,000 square foot space marks Mabel's fourth and largest location, which features a retail section overlooking a state-of-the-art bread kitchen where customers can watch artisan bakers at work.
"Our desire with Mabel's from the beginning was to bring great-tasting, high-quality food and service to the local community," says Lorraine Hawley, president of Mabel's, and co-owner with husband Bob Warburton. "Now, with this new location in the Junction, we have an open-concept bread kitchen that allows people to see the time-honoured techniques that go into creating our artisan breads, croissants and other baked goods."
In addition to being open-concept, the new bread kitchen also has double the capacity of the current one in Roncesvalles Village, allowing them to easily scale up production in the future. That means more options of delicious goodness to choose from, which can all be enjoyed with fresh-brewed organic fair trade coffee from local Toronto roaster, Kitimai. Customers will also have access to a small patio during the warmer months and three dedicated parking spots – a first for the small bakery chain.
The Junction location is the culmination of Hawley's dream for Mabel's since she and Warburton opened their first bakery on Roncesvalles Avenue in 2008, followed by two more bakeries on Queen Street West and St. Clair Avenue West. In each case, finding the right spot in local communities has been important to the couple, and The Junction – an area with a lot of history and locally supportive residents – felt like a natural fit.
"Mabel's reputation for great food and customer service has resulted in fierce customer loyalty at all our locations," says Warburton. "When we posted our opening on the Junction Facebook page, we were really encouraged to see how excited their response was."
Key to Mabel's success is in large part due to using premium, all natural, local and organic ingredients. They bake everything from scratch and specialize in artisan breads, prepared foods, ready meals, home-style baked goods, artisan cheeses and charcuterie with vegan and gluten-free options available.
Mabel's Bakery in The Junction is located at 2755 Dundas St West and is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mabel's specializes in home style baked goods, prepared foods, ready meals and artisan breads and cheeses. Mabel's uses only the highest quality ingredients, choosing local or organic options whenever possible, with no preservatives or artificial flavouring. Mabel's opened its first store in 2008 on Roncesvalles Ave, and since then has opened three more locations in Toronto's west end.
