Toronto Hosts HIV/AIDS Conference November 16-17

Research at the Front Lines: Finding New Solutions in HIV Prevention, Treatment and Support

TORONTO, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - The 11th annual research conference of the Ontario HIV Treatment Network will examine the factors that increase risk for individuals and communities most affected by HIV, as well as interventions that may improve the lives of people living with HIV and prevent the spread of the virus.

Research scientists, decision makers, service providers and people living with HIV will gather in Toronto to explore a wide range of complex and sometimes contentious concerns including:

    National pregnancy guidelines for people living with HIV
    Criminalization of HIV/AIDS
    Safe injection and inhalation sites

The conference will feature eleven keynote presentations from internationally renowned experts, including:

Charles B. Collins, Section Chief for Science Application, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the CDC who has designed, implemented, and evaluated HIV interventions for African American drug users and young MSM of color

Jonathan Anderson, Senior Research Fellow, Deakin University Health Economics, Australia and President of the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine, whose research focuses on cost-effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions

Robert Carr, renowned researcher and advocate from Jamaica who serves as Associate Director of Policy and Advocacy at the International Coalition of AIDS Services Organizations (ICASO)

Ron Stall, Professor and Chair, Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, University of Pittsburgh and one of the most highly cited behavioral science researchers

Mario Ostrowski, a dynamic, cutting-edge researcher from the University of Toronto whose work focuses on developing an HIV vaccine
