Toronto FC Makes History Becoming the First Canadian Team to Win the MLS Cup

TORONTO, Dec. 9, 2017 /CNW/ - BMO is thrilled to congratulate the Toronto FC on becoming the first Canadian team in Major League Soccer to win the MLS Cup, capping off an incredible playoff run and exciting performance at BMO Field earlier this evening.

After reaching the MLS Cup Final for the second consecutive year, TFC can now call themselves MLS Cup Champions. TFC topped Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 during an epic rematch from 2016 in front of a sold-out crowd of approximately 30,000.

The win marks both the first MLS Cup win for the club and the first MLS Cup won by a Canadian franchise.

"We are so excited for the Toronto FC on their incredible victory tonight," said Darryl White, Chief Executive Officer, BMO Financial Group. "BMO is proud to count itself as a long-time sponsor and supporter of the club. We've been here since the very beginning!"

Back in 2015, BMO renewed a deal to keep its name on BMO Field and remain an official partner of the Toronto FC for another ten years.

"It's a partnership we're proud to continue, and we are looking forward to building on the momentum of this record-setting season," added Mr. White.

"Toronto FC is happy to celebrate this milestone moment alongside BMO Financial Group," said Bill Manning, President, Toronto FC. "From the club's inaugural year, BMO has been an incredible partner and advocate for Canadian soccer and their support has been imperative to this championship."
