Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange

TORONTO , Feb. 3 /CNW/ - TMX Group Inc. today announced its equity financing activity on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange for January 2010 .

Toronto Stock Exchange welcomed 16 new exchange traded funds (ETFs) to the market during January, bringing the total number of ETFs listed to 137. This month follows a very strong year in ETF listing and trading on Toronto Stock Exchange: 38 new ETFs listed during 2009, and trading more than doubled from 7.0 billion shares traded in 2008 to 16.8 billion shares traded in 2009.

Equity financing surged on TSX Venture Exchange in January 2010 compared to January 2009 ; more than $718 million was raised, which represents an increase of 545.6% over last year. Toronto Stock Exchange financings were up slightly in the month compared to January 2009 .

TMX Group's equity exchanges were sixth in the world by equity capital raised in 2009, an increase from its 2008 standing of seventh in the world.
