TORONTO, Feb. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is warning people to stay clear of hydroelectric dams and stations this Family Day long weekend.
"This holiday weekend is a great time for winter activities, however the areas around hydroelectric dams and stations are not places for recreation and therefore, must be avoided," said Mike Martelli, OPG's Senior Vice-President of Hydro-Thermal Operations. "Our message is simple, stay clear, stay safe."
The waterways near OPG facilities are not safe places for recreation at any time of the year. Ice forming near a dam or hydroelectric station can be thinner and less consistent than ice in other locations because of changing water flows beneath it.
To warn people of the dangers OPG and the Ontario Provincial Police produced a new TV public service announcement, now airing across Ontario on network and specialty channels. View it and other unique online resources at www.stayclearstaysafe.ca.
