SEOUL, South Korea, March 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Korea is one of the top 10 book markets in the world in terms of the market volume, thus it is not a surprise that the country is chosen as the Market Focus at the London Book Fair 2014. Korean publishers have been active buyers of foreign copyrights and over the last few decades, they have been also providing international publishers with quality contents.
27 companies including publishers, e-book specialists and print companies will participate in the market focus at the London Book Fair. Korean Publishers Association (KPA) has prepared a variety of sessions such as Market Focus on Korean digital publishing, Introduction to Korean Authors, and Seminars for Publication Experts along with different cultural events.
The KPA expresses their expectation that this opportunity at the fair will pave the road for more open discussion and exchanges and more networking between international and Korean publishers in the future.
With a membership of 570 publishers in Korea, the KPA is the main voice of the nation's publishing industry since 1947. The KPA produces the Seoul international book fair which is the biggest book fair in Korea. Hosting the fair every June, they promote the Korean reading culture introducing newest titles to Korean readers and let foreign visitors indirectly experience life in Korea. Also, the association organizes Korean collective stand in various international book fairs.
By participating at major international book fairs like LBF, KPA has endeavored to facilitate more exchanges between Korean and international publishers. The Korean Collective Stand is organized in order to promote the development of the Korean publishing industry. It is aimed to support Korean publishers in search of potential business partners wanting to expand their businesses abroad. For the year 2014, The KPA runs Korean Collective Stands at 9 international book fairs including The Bologna Children's Book Fair, The Beijing International Book Fair, and The Frankfurt Book Fair.
In addition, The KPA makes efforts to protect the right of writers and publishers by implementing the resale price maintenance, and they promote the publication market by safeguarding its development and introducing innovative measures.
