MONTRÉAL, March 17, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Society for the Celebration of Montréal's 375th Anniversary welcomes the announcement made today by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honorable Mélanie Joly, of a contribution of up to $4M to carry out projects that will commemorate Expo 67 in 2017.
"This partnership with the federal government will allow us to move forward on projects commemorating this major moment in the history of Montréal and Canada," said France Chrétien-Desmarais, President of the Board of Directors of the Society for the Celebration of Montréal's 375th Anniversary. "Expo 67 was a true technological, cultural and social revolution. This is a tangible commitment that will not only serve to highlight and celebrate the extraordinary contribution of Expo 67, but it will allow people of all ages and backgrounds who didn't have the chance to experience it firsthand to discover it."
"As part of Canada's Centennial, Expo 67 left its mark on Montréal and on the country. I am pleased that for the 150th anniversary of Confederation, the Government of Canada is forming a partnership with the Society for the Celebrations of Montréal's 375th Anniversary by contributing to projects to highlight the valuable legacy of Expo 67" said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
The amount announced today, which could reach up to $4M, will be allocated to financing projects dedicated exclusively to commemorating Expo 67. These have already been identified and will be announced at a later date.
