The Sagebrush and Pavilion Theatres in Kamloops Benefit from Cultural Infrastructure Upgrades Français
The Government of Canada is providing $188,000 to Western Canada Theatre to modernize the Sagebrush and Pavilion theatres in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS, BC, May 15, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, today announced $188,000 in funding for important infrastructure upgrades to two theatre spaces operated by Western Canada Theatre. Minister Garneau made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
Funding will allow Western Canada Theatre to undertake renovations to the Sagebrush Theatre, a 706-seat proscenium theatre, and the Pavilion Theatre, a 165-seat black box theatre.
The Sagebrush Theatre will undergo a series of upgrades, including new emergency exit doors, carpeting and a rigging system. In the Pavilion Theatre, new lighting fixtures and flooring will be installed. This project will directly benefit artists, patrons and staff of both theatres, creating comfortable, safe and modernized venues.
Funding has been provided through the Government of Canada's cultural infrastructure program, the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.

Western Canada Theatre manages and operates the Sagebrush Theatre and the Pavilion Theatre, the only two fully-equipped professional theatres in Kamloops. Western Canada Theatre produces a professional main stage and second stage series, and also hosts several alternative productions throughout its season.
The Sagebrush Theatre is jointly owned by the City of Kamloops and the Kamloops-Thompson School District, and is also home to the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra. The Pavilion Theatre houses the administration offices of the Western Canada Theatre and also serves as its rehearsal hall.
In Budget 2017, the Government of Canada dedicated $300 million to the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund over a 10-year period, starting in 2018, to support creative hubs and other cultural spaces. This additional investment is part of the social infrastructure component of the Investing in Canada Plan.
The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund supports the improvement of physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation, as well as the improvement, renovation and construction of arts and heritage facilities, and the acquisition of specialized equipment.
