TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - First-time host Seth MacFarlane was a ratings success, as a smashing 6.1 million viewers watched THE OSCARS® on CTV last night, matching the overnight audience achieved in 2012 and 2011. Just under SUPER BOWL XLVII's audience of 6.6 million on CTV, the awards ceremony once again took centre stage as the #1 entertainment program of the broadcast year. The 3.5 hour-broadcast drew more than 2.5 million A25-54 and A18-49 viewers. Nationally, more than one in two English Canadians watching TV, were tuned to the broadcast. Reaching 14.5 million viewers overall, the star-studded event peaked with 7.2 million viewers at 10:22 p.m. ET as 2012 OSCAR-winning Canadian actor Christopher Plummer took to the stage to present Anne Hathaway with her award for Best Supporting Actress in Les Misérables.

In Toronto alone, THE OSCARS drew a very strong 25.4 A25-54 rating, while nearly two in three viewers watching TV last night were tuned in to the broadcast. In Vancouver, audiences grew double digits compared to last year with total viewers (+71%), A18-34 (+77%), A25-54 (+90%), and more than doubled last year's A18-49 audience (+105%).

Kicking off OSCAR night was Canada's official red carpet special CTV AT THE OSCARS at 6 p.m., which drew nearly 1 million viewers on CTV. With the coveted second position on the most important red carpet of the year, CTV had the star-studded event covered from every angle, with ETALK's Ben Mulroney on the ground and E!'s Leah Miller and fashion expert Jay Manuel reporting on celebrity fashion from the exclusive balcony position. In the middle of all the red carpet action, Mulroney rubbed shoulders with OSCAR-winner Jennifer Lawrence and numerous other OSCAR nominees and presenters, including Amy Adams, Octavia Spencer, and Quvenzhané Wallis. CTV AT THE OSCARS is available on demand at, where viewers can relive all the red carpet interviews and fashion choices.

OSCAR red carpet coverage continued on CTV at 8 p.m. with 3.2 million viewers watching OSCARS RED CARPET LIVE!, up 26% from last year. Hosted by Kelly Rowland, Kristin Chenoweth, Jess Cagle, and Lara Spencer, the hosts chatted with all the A-list stars, and took viewers into the Dolby Theatre prior to the awards.

ETALK's L.A. correspondent Jessi Cruickshank breaks down the night's best and worst fashion choices, and sends one OSCAR-winner to fashion prison! From candid moments between stars on the red carpet, to inside the award show, ETALK's Lainey also dishes on the details that viewers did not see at home. Once the award show wrapped, ETALK spent the night party-hopping, hitting all the post-OSCAR party hotspots including the Governors Ball, and the Vanity Fair OSCAR party. Anchor Tanya Kim also hit the red carpet at Elton John's OSCAR party, where we she chatted with Michael Bublé, Nina Dobrev, Elton John, David Furnish, and Nicki Minaj.
