Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concerts
MONTREAL, Jan. 10, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concerts has invited Montreal's Appassionata to participate in this prestigious series on January 21, 2012. Under the direction of Daniel Myssyk, the orchestra will present its first concert on American soil at the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall in Richmond, Virginia. For the occasion, internationally renowned Canadian pianist Richard Raymond will join Appassionata's 19 musicians in an interpretation of Paul Hindemith's Four Temperaments and Frédéric Chopin's Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise brillante. The Scherzo pour cordes by Quebec composer André Prévost and the Serenade for Strings by Antonin Dvorak will also be on the program.

Appassionata will also take advantage of its American venue to give a concert with the students from the Virginia Commonwealth University. The concert will be held at the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall at 8 p.m. on January 24, 2012. On the program: Dvorak's 9th Symphony - the so-called New World Symphony - and the American premiere of Ben Seni Variations by VCU jazz professor Doug Richards, who will conduct the performance. Appassionata's first chairs will give master classes for the students. Daniel Myssyk, Appassionata's artistic director, is also an assistant professor and director of orchestral activities at VCU.

Appassionata is a Quebec chamber orchestra founded eleven years ago and directed by its current conductor, Daniel Myssyk. It includes 19 of Quebec's most experienced musicians. The group's first CD, Idyla, was a finalist for the OPUS Prize in 2008. Appassionata performs in Quebec as well as in the United States. www.appassionata.ca
