TORONTO, March 27, 2012 /CNW/ - The Law Foundation of Ontario (LFO) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting 2012/2013 Community Leadership in Justice Fellowship applications. These fellowships bring together leaders from public interest organizations with Ontario universities, law school and community colleges, with a common focus on improving access to justice and promoting professional excellence.
Two awards, valued at up to CAD$50,000 each, are available to cover the fellows' salaries. Up to CAD$15,000 is available to each academic host for equipment and program-related expenses. These awards are tenable for a period of time within the 2012/2013 academic year at any Ontario law school, university, or community college. Fellowship candidates must be active in public organizations dedicated to law reform, legal advocacy or the justice system. Academic hosts must be either a law school or a community college or university department dedicated to legal or justice studies. Successful fellows will fulfill a range of responsibilities, which may include undertaking research, mentoring, teaching, and activism.
The LFO is looking for creative proposals for new work; the proposal should not be for replacement faculty to teach an existing course. Ideally, all three participants (Fellow, academia, and the public interest organization) will expose one another to distinct and challenging perspectives on law and the justice system.
Applications are due May 4, 2012 by 5:00 pm.
The application form and information on how to apply for a Community Leadership in Justice Fellowship can be found on the LFO website.
