The Honourable David C. Onley to preside over the 25th Annual Lieutenant
Governor's Games at Variety Village

TORONTO, Oct. 22 /CNW/ - On Friday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m., The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will kick-off a 25-year tradition at Variety Village with the opening of the Lieutenant Governor Games.

Over 500 youngsters of varied abilities participate, with the help of volunteers and Variety Village staff, in adapted co-operative and competitive activities in a fun, carnival-like setting.

His Honour presides over this one-day event, which is an introduction to sports and fitness for hundreds of youngsters with special needs (physical, developmental, learning and socio-economic). Many of the participants continue their involvement in sports through community sport and recreation leagues and some even go on to represent Canada in the Paralympics and Special Olympics. At the closing of the event each child receives a medal from His Honour.

The Lieutenant Governor Games showcase the opportunities available for anyone, regardless of ability, to participate in sports and recreational activities in an inclusive, safe and fun environment.

Variety Village is located at 3701 Danforth Avenue, Scarborough (east of Birchmount Road). For more information contact: 416-699-7167
