The highest distinction of the OIQ: Engineer Serge Gendron receives the 2012 Grand Prix d'excellence from the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec Français
MONTREAL, May 28, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Serge Gendron, Eng., President of AGF Group, has won the 2012 Grand Prix d'excellence, which is the highest distinction given by the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec to its members. This prize has been awarded every year since 1991 in tribute to outstanding professional practice by a Québec engineer. This year's winning engineer serves as a model for the profession and is known and recognized for his visionary qualities, innovations and social commitment.
An accomplished businessman, Mr. Gendron plays a decisive role in determining the strategies of his company, whose development he has overseen for 30 years. AGF Group now has 36 business units located in Canada, the United States, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East and Africa.
Under his guidance, AGF Group has completed historic projects in the concrete reinforcing steel sector, including Montreal's Olympic Stadium, the Hibernia oil rig, the LG-1 hydroelectric power station, and Dubai's subway, and is now putting the finishing touches on the extension of highway 30. In the last 10 years, Serge Gendron has added complementary sectors of activity to AGF Group's specialties, such as scaffolding, access, and innovative new construction techniques, in order broaden the range of services it offers. The company now has over 2,000 employees.
Mr. Gendron has never doubted his choice of profession. He has also worked for a long time as a volunteer with the next generation of engineers, primarily through the Polytechnique foundation, of which he has been President since 2011. Serge Gendron received the Prix Mérite from Polytechnique's alumni association in 2009, which is the annual award given to a Polytechnique graduate who has reached the pinnacle of his or her professional or social activities.
Through its policy on rewarding professional excellence, the OIQ seeks to recognize the achievements of engineers whose careers offer an example of how the values of the profession can be fulfilled: competence, responsibility, ethics, and social commitment. This award also takes into account the recipient's leadership, know-how and self-management skills.
