New Brewery Also Unveils Kickstarter Campaign That Offers Torontonians Beer Subscriptions and Other Innovative Rewards
TORONTO, Nov. 24, 2015 /CNW/ - Henderson Brewing Company announces it is entering Canada's robust small brewer market with a unique beer experience that is "all Toronto." Canada's newest craft beer brewing facility and tap room will be located on Sterling Road in the Lower Junction triangle — one of Toronto's most-anticipated, up-and-coming areas. It is set to open in Winter/Spring 2016.
"We took considerable care in building a brand for Henderson Brewing Company that tells a uniquely Toronto beer story," says Steve Himel, Henderson's General Manager. "From our name, which is a nod to Toronto's first brewer, Robert Henderson, to our monthly 'Ides' brew series of custom beers and packaging that draws inspiration from Toronto's famous people, places and moments, this beer is all about our great city. It will be anchored by a beer called Henderson's Best, which will be available year round," Himel adds.
In an effort to get Torontonians actively involved in and excited about Henderson Brewing Company, the upstart brewers have turned to Kickstarter to roll-out a unique campaign that offers everything from cool custom swag to 'beer rewards.' The cornerstone of these rewards are beer subscriptions, where supporters receive Henderson's monthly 'Ides' brews at private launch parties in advance of the beers being released to the public. The Kickstarter initiative runs to December 31, 2015, and is also intended to raise funds for a state-of-the-art keg cleaner and filler for the brand new Henderson brewing facility. The Kickstarter program can be accessed here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1902980814/henderson-brewing-beer-meet-keg.
"We're calling on Toronto's beer drinking community to take part in our Kickstarter program and help us create a destination and beer-of-choice for proud Torontonians and visitors to the city," says Himel.
Henderson Brewing Company is the brainchild of Himel and Henderson's brewmaster and operations lead, Mark Benzaquen. Himel has spent a career in the beer business. Starting as a brewer at Connor's, one of Toronto's original craft breweries, he has been a consultant for many of Canada's — and the world's — best beer brands, including: Sleeman, Heineken and Grolsch. Benzaquen, after years of award-winning craft brewing and brewery building for others, including Molson's first commercial microbrewery, is eager to apply his skill and experience to his own brewery and recipes. As the lead technical adviser to the Ontario Craft Brewers (OCB), Mark also works with Ontario craft breweries and other industry stakeholders to support and grow the craft beer community here in Ontario and across Canada.
Construction for the Henderson Brewing Company began in August 2015. It is a 9,000-square-foot facility located at 128A Sterling Road, a hot spot of new Toronto development and revitalization. In addition to making a variety of craft beers on-site, the facility will feature a retail store and sunlight-filled tap room where beer drinkers can savour a pint as well as purchase unique bottles to go. The venue will also serve as a versatile event space, complete with catering kitchen and a 90-car parking lot.
"Along with the other great brewers in this city, Henderson Brewing Company wants to be an integral part of what Toronto councillor Mike Layton has recognized as the 'craft beer renaissance' that is going on right now in Toronto," says Himel.
