In addition to its Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, to help parents and gift-givers navigate what's hot, Toys"R"Us released its 10 Top Toy Trends for Holiday 2016. From discovery, science and imagination to superheroes and collectibles to kids' favourite on-screen characters, the trends cover the fastest growing toy categories of the year.
According to data from The NPD Group, a global market research firm, collectible toys continue to be one of the hottest trends, up 65 per cent this year.1 The fastest-growing categories also include games/puzzles and action figures, which have grown by 27 per cent and 17 per cent respectively over a five week period this fall. 2 Remote control flying vehicles, such as drones, expect to have similar holiday sales as last year, which were up 32 per cent.3 Toys for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers also continues to see growth of more than 9 per cent, and scientific toys that encourage discovery are up 8 per cent this year.1
