Nearly $600,000 in financial assistance awarded by the Government of Canada will enable the City to stimulate investment and promote tourism
THETFORD MINES, QC, Aug. 25, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
The City of Thetford Mines (website in French only) will be able to create a new corporate image and implement a communication plan for its revised visual identity thanks to $571,500 in financial assistance, granted in the form of a non-repayable contribution, from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.
The announcement of this assistance to the seat of the Appalaches RCM was made by the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Compton–Stanstead, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.
Communities need to build on innovation to diversify themselves strategically and develop lasting regional competitive advantages. As such, support for community transition and diversification is a priority for the Government of Canada.
The new City of Thetford Mines was created in 2001, following a municipal merger. The funding awarded through CED's Canadian Initiative for the Economic Diversification of Communities Reliant on Chrysotile will help the City of Thetford Mines create a new visual identity to stimulate investment and recruit professionals in specialized business lines, including clean technology.
"Implementation of this new visual identity project is a major step in promoting the area. The funding from CED will help the City of Thetford Mines position itself well and showcase its assets to attract even more people to the region."
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie
"We are committed to stimulating economic growth and creating well-paying jobs for the middle class. With this support for the City of Thetford Mines, the Government of Canada is showing once again that it cares deeply about the economic development of Quebec regions."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED
"The new visual identity project was a priority in the city's strategy for stimulating economic and tourism development and will help make Thetford Mines a destination of choice for tourists, business people and new residents."
Marc-Alexandre Brousseau, Mayor of Thetford Mines
