Government of Canada awards nearly $800,000 in financial assistance to CEE-UQAC in Saguenay
SAGUENAY, QC, Dec. 19, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Régions (CED)
By investing in organizations that help business start-ups, the Government of Canada is directing resources to initiatives that have the greatest positive impact on the lives of Canadians.
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, David Lametti, Member of Parliament for LaSalle—Émard—Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced that the Centre d'entrepreneuriat et d'essaimage de l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (website in French only) has been granted $795,000 in financial assistance over a three-year period, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to provide services tailored to those who want to start a business.
Since 1998, the CEE-UQAC has been promoting entrepreneurship and business creation among students from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) and colleges in the area. This non-profit organization acts as an intermediary, providing management consulting services for students wishing to explore the potential of projects and organizes conferences for the regional entrepreneurial community. It connects graduates in the science and engineering sector with SMEs to carry out technological projects. The funding awarded through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) will help support the CEE-UQAC's operating costs so that it can provide customized business start-up services and help SMEs carry out technological projects.
"From the time of its creation nearly 20 years ago, many success stories have come out of the Centre d'essaimage et d'entrepreneuriat de l'UQAC. By continuing to support this institution of higher learning, we are fostering the emergence of a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs who are contributing to the economic vitality of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region."
David Lametti, Member of Parliament for LaSalle—Émard—Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development
"As the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, my goal is to help businesses grow, innovate and export so that they can create high-quality jobs and wealth for Canadians. That is why we support regional economic development partners, such as the Centre d'entrepreneuriat et d'essaimage de l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (CEE-UQAC)."
