The Canadian Mixed Doubles Challenge Launches Inaugural Year in June 2011
Canadian National Champions will win all-expense-paid trip to the London 2012 Games
TORONTO, Nov. 17 /CNW/ - The inaugural Canadian Mixed Doubles Challenge (CMDC) will hit tennis clubs across Canada starting in June 2011. The more than 1,110 tennis clubs and 800,000 adult club-level players across the country will have the chance to participate in a national event designed to grow adult competitive tennis in Canada. The CMDC will offer players the opportunity to compete against other players from across the country and to win significant prizes at all levels.
Qualifying tournaments begin at the local club level in June 2011. Winners will then compete regionally for a chance to participate in their provincial championships. Winners of their provincial tournaments will compete in the national finals, taking place from January 27 - 29, 2012, for the Grand Prize and the title of Canadian Mixed Doubles Champions.
The Grand Prize, valued at more than $10,000, will go to both the female and male players of the winning mixed doubles team, as well as a random draw winner. All winners will be flown to London, England to attend the finals of the first ever Mixed Doubles Tennis event as part of the London 2012 Games.
"We are very excited to be bringing the CMDC to the Canadian adult tennis circuit as an opportunity for nationwide competitive tennis development," says Sandra Barrett of the TENNISaccess Doubles Tour. "Adult players love the mixed doubles format, but there are very few competitive opportunities available across the country. The CMDC will fill that gap and give players the opportunity to be a part of a national event, designed for their level of play, with the chance for players and their clubs to win some great prizes."
Competition is open to all club-level players across Canada aged 25 and over. Different from others senior tournaments, players cannot be current teaching professionals, have been ranked in the top 10 provincially or nationally in the past five years or have ever competed as a professional player. There is a one-time $45 entry fee, which will cover all tournaments at the local, regional, provincial and national levels.
"The CMDC is an important addition to Canada's adult tennis circuit," says Larry Latowsky, CEO of Endeavor Promotions. "It will bring together Canada's vibrant tennis community in the spirit of fun, competition and love for the sport. Giving club-level players the chance to compete up to the national level is an amazing opportunity to develop their games beyond what is available currently and will certainly grow the national profile of tennis in Canada."
The CMDC will be administered and managed by TENNISaccess, which operates a highly successful adult club-level tennis tour across Ontario as well as worldwide tennis vacations and Endeavor Promotions, a full service marketing and promotions company.
