WENDAKE, QC, May 21, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Elder Bertha Commanda from Kitigan Zibi Anishnabeg earlier this week. I want specifically to acknowledge her contribution as the co-chair of the Assembly of First Nations National Elders Council", stated the Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec Labrador.
In her capacity as co-chair of the Elders Council, Bertha Commanda, had the responsibility of offering opening prayers at the regular meetings of the AFN National Executive Committee. "I was able to hear first hand her profound interest in issues related to First Nations education and in particular her concern about the state of Aboriginal languages", added Chief Picard.
The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador wants to express its sincere condolences to the family of Elder Commanda and to the Anishnabeg Nation.
