Terrestar Solutions and M2M Tech partner to build next generation of Hybrid IoT and Edge AI Solutions, available anywhere in Canada
FrançaisPartnership will combine both companies' technologies to bring powerful new communications capacity for industries in remote areas
MONTREAL and VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 9, 2026 /CNW/ -- In today's world, secure, reliable communications infrastructure is essential for economic growth and productivity. As Canada moves forward with nation-building projects in remote areas, constraints on communications should not be a hurdle to operations and delivery. Terrestar Solutions Inc. and M2M Tech have partnered to deliver the solutions needed as we endeavour to build the future of connected and intelligent operations in Canada.
Terrestar, Canada's only domestically headquartered and controlled mobile satellite service operator, and M2M Tech, a Canadian physical AI company, are announcing a new strategic partnership that will accelerate the development and deployment of their signature Hybrid IoT and Edge AI Solutions.
Companies and organizations with operations located beyond conventional terrestrial networks have long been looking for solutions like this--mining, forestry, utilities, energy and agriculture are just a few examples of the industries that have been hampered by connectivity constraints. This new partnership will integrate Terrestar's Canadian-controlled satellite-enabled Hybrid IoT connectivity and M2M Tech's Edge AI to help organizations collect data in real time, process it at speed, and act on critical information without the added latency that has too long been a feature of operations in remote parts of Canada.
A pilot initiative at Twinberry Farms in Pitt Meadows, B.C., serves as an example of this partnership in action. By combining Hybrid IoT with Edge AI computing, the project optimizes blueberry crop production and harvesting operations. It provides live insights directly to harvest operators to streamline daily tasks, along with post-season insights to help farmers produce better growth next season. Ultimately, this makes the entire farming process more productive both now and in the future. According to a 2025 report on Agriculture Technology Adoption published by the Ted Rogers School of Management's Diversity Institute, current digital tools could generate an additional $750 million to $1.5 billion in annual revenue1.
"Terrestar's Hybrid IoT service is built to help organizations move beyond existing network boundaries by providing a new way to get seamless cellular and satellite connectivity," said Stéphane Miljours, Director, Business Product - IoT at Terrestar Solutions. "Our collaboration with M2M Tech deploys innovative technology into real-world operations. Seeing our technology in action at Twinberry Farms demonstrates how we are bringing real-time data out of the field into the user's hands, allowing them to make more informed decisions and be more productive. This partnership helps companies work smarter, operate more safely and improve productivity, no matter the industry."
"Our shared goal is to help industries turn remote field operations into actionable intelligence," said Ashok Kasilingam, Chief Executive Officer at M2M Tech. "Combining Terrestar's Hybrid IoT capabilities with M2M Tech's Edge AI platform allows customers to process data where operations happen, transmit only what matters, and maintain continuity even in challenging connectivity environments."
This is the next phase of what Canada's digital infrastructure can look like. Delivered over Canadian-licensed spectrum and operated from Canada, Terrestar's Hybrid IoT service delivers seamless connectivity beyond the reach of conventional networks. Combined with M2M Tech's intelligent data processing, it empowers organizations to boost productivity, enhance safety, and make data-driven decisions. These technologies are designed to close the digital divide for people and companies in rural and remote Canada.
Together, the companies will explore joint pilots in other industries, ecosystem partnerships, and commercialization pathways with partners that require resilient connectivity and intelligent field operations.
