TORONTO, Nov. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - TELETOON at Night prepares for one final launch into space, as Emmy® Award-winning and critically acclaimed oddball sci-fi series Futurama comes to an end (for the second time) with the series finale airing Thursday, December 5 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on TELETOON at Night during the Fred at Night programming block.
In the final episode, Fry asks Leela to marry him and they face their destiny together as the Professor's latest invention alters the fabric of time.
"It's going to be a very romantic episode, with a surprising amount of blood," said David X. Cohen, Executive Producer, Futurama.
First launched in 1999 and culminating with 140 episodes, this cult classic comedy by Matt Groening is set in the year 3000 and chronicles the life of Phillip Fry (voiced by Billy West), a pizza delivery boy who accidentally stumbles into a freezer on December 31, 1999 and wakes up a thousand years later. In his future home of "New New York City," Fry goes to work for the Planet Express Intergalactic delivery company, where he becomes friends with Bender (voiced by John DiMaggio), a beer-fueled robot, and sets his romantic sights on Leela (voiced by Katey Sagal), a sexy Cyclops who occasionally beats him up.
Futurama, created by Matt Groening and developed by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, is produced by The Curiosity Company in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Over the course of its storied run, Futurama has earned six Emmy® Awards, including two Outstanding Animated Program, seven Annie Awards, two Environmental Media Awards and two Writer's Guild of America Awards.
On December 5, Fred at Night will also see the season finales of Archer (Season 4) at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT and TELETOON Original Production Fugget About It (Season 2) at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
