Fixing the Gen Y job hunt: TalentEgg Challenges uses technology to give students and grads a chance to stand out
TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, Canada's leading job board and online career resource for students and recent grads, TalentEgg.ca, has launched an innovative new platform to help Canadian youth gain the experience they need to find meaningful employment.
TalentEgg Challenges gives young people the opportunity to demonstrate and verify their skills - helping them prove to employers that they have what it takes to be valuable employees.
Students and grads tackle relevant online Challenges presented in partnership with innovative brands, organizations and employers.
After completing a Challenge, participants receive a review of the skills and experiences gained, which can easily be added directly to their resume and LinkedIn profile. Top performers in each Challenge will also be eligible for a range of prizes, including employment opportunities, cash and career-related experiences.
Almost 75% of recent post-secondary graduates surveyed say that a lack of experience is a barrier to securing their first job, and with the national Canadian youth unemployment rate doubling that of the general population, it is clear that the job market poses unique challenges for this generation of students and grads.
By providing an opportunity to demonstrate their potential, TalentEgg Challenges gives students and grads the opportunity to overcome the often lamented catch-22: "It's hard to get a job without experience, and it's hard to get experience without a job".
As a launch partner, Purolator is presenting the first Challenge - and offering a cash prize along with an internship opportunity for the best solutions. For innovative companies like Purolator, Challenges offers a unique opportunity to unlock the intellectual capital of Canadian youth, crowd-sourcing innovative ideas and solutions.
For other organizations, TalentEgg Challenges allows them to reach Generation Y in a relevant, meaningful and impactful way.
"Historically, acquiring meaningful work experience has been very difficult, especially for the 96% of students not enrolled in co-op programs," said Lauren Friese, founder of TalentEgg.ca.
"With TalentEgg Challenges, students and grads - no matter where they're located or what they're studying - can use the platform to prove their skills and aptitude to employers and stand out in a challenging, competitive job market."
