TORONTO, June 25, 2015 /CNW/ - With the launch of its #WEARYOURCARE™ and #JUSTCARE™ fundraising campaigns, Good Souls (www.goodsouls.ca) is raising money from the profits of its T-shirts and accessories sales for the purchase of much-needed medical equipment at community hospitals across Canada.
Tragedy inspired Marilena Anderson to start Good Souls in 2014: "When I was 19 my mother fell and hit her head. Doctors took an X-ray at the local hospital but had no access to a CT scan, which was 30 minutes away at a downtown hospital. Two days later my mom died of massive brain swelling. If her local hospital had been equipped with a CT, they could have caught it sooner and my mom might be alive today."
"We all want the best health care and medical equipment in our local hospitals," says Anderson. "But with Canada's aging population, healthcare costs are rising. And most community hospitals don't have access to the fundraising of larger teaching hospitals. They need our help."
Good Souls beneficiary hospitals include: St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (B.C.); Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (Alberta); Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation (Saskatchewan); Brandon Regional Health Authority (Manitoba); Queensway Carleton Hospital (Ontario); Colchester East Hants Health Authority (Nova Scotia).
All Good Souls products are designed and manufactured in Canada to support jobs here at home. By using local designers and manufacturers, Good Souls reduces how far its goods are shipped, resulting in lower emissions, a smaller carbon footprint and a greener planet.
Every item of Good Souls clothing and accessories is inspired by a Canadian Good Soul: the Sil Tee was named for Anderson's mother, Silvia, who died of a traumatic brain injury. The Tamara Tote was named for a Canadian woman battling breast cancer and the Pat Tee is in honour of a prostate cancer survivor.
"We know people are asked to donate to many worthy causes and many have donor fatigue," says Anderson. "But our goods are high-quality and reasonably priced. And with a Good Souls purchase, you get the good feeling of knowing you're helping to improve health care across the country. I believe there's a good soul within every Canadian who can get involved and #JUSTCARE™."
If you want to know which province cares the most, check the Good Souls Canadian Care Challenge to see how provinces measure up in their contributions to the #WEARYOURCARE™ and #JUSTCARE™ campaigns in support of their local hospital. Anderson has a hunch about which province will come out ahead, but she's keeping that information to herself for now: "I have done a lot of market research on which provinces give the most to charity but I'm hopeful that a few provinces will serve the market data wrong!"
Good Souls is a Canadian non-profit organization. If you would like more information about Good Souls or to schedule an interview with Marilena Anderson, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or (416) 697-0191.
