TAIBU Community Health Centre mandated to serve the Black community across the GTA and the residents of the Malvern Neighbourhood is celebrating 5 years of 'Being in Good Health'.
TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - On Saturday September 21st 2013, TAIBU Community Health Centre (TAIBU CHC) is holding its 5th Annual General Meeting followed by a celebration of 5 years of 'Being in Good Health'. The Centre's Annual General Meeting is to be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by the Celebration event to be officially opened at 1:00 pm.

Several dignitaries will be attending the Celebration event including Honorable Rathika Sitsabaiesan, MP Scarborough Rouge-River, Honorable Michael Coteau MPP Don Valley East and Ontario's Minister of Citizenship & Immigration, Honorable Bas Balkissoon, MPP Scarborough-Rouge River, Honorable Mitzie Hunter MPP Scarborough-Guildwood and Councillor Raymond Cho, Scarborough-Rouge River, Ward 42.
The Celebration event will include African Drumming, Afrocentric Dance and Drama performance, and Steel Pan performance by local youths. The centre has also organized a community Health and Wellbeing event with several partner health and social service agencies with information booths, Blood Pressure, Diabetes and Sickle Cell screening, as well as information and display of the various programs and services offered by TAIBU CHC.
TAIBU is Swahili for "Be in good health." The CHC is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care through the Central East Local Health Integration Network. TAIBU provides primary healthcare and health promotion services to the Black population across the GTA as its priority population. It also serves the residents of the Malvern neighbourhood. Since its start of operation in 2008 TAIBU has registered several accomplishments including the opening of its facility in March 2011, its first Accreditation designation by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation in Nov 2012, the start of its specialized primary health care service for adults with sickle cell disease in July 2012, and the establishment of several innovative and best practice model programs for youth, adults and older adults.
