NOTRE-DAME-DU-PORTAGE, QC, April 28, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects such as this one by the Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, which contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia, announced that the Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage (website in French only) has been granted $500,000 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to renovate the outdoor pool and the building used by bathers.
Located in the Rivière-du-Loup RCM, the Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage is implementing development and facilitation projects to revitalize the community. It provides the community with a 25-metre outdoor pool. Built in 1965, it is the only public heated salt-water pool on the shores of the St-Lawrence River.
The funding awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will help the municipality renovate the building used by bathers, the pool basin and the protective retaining wall on the bank of the St. Lawrence River. It will also install splash pads and park furnishings. The work will make this community and recreational infrastructure safer and more attractive and accessible to the public.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
"Our community infrastructure will be preserved and improved through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program so that Canadians and their families can have cultural, sports and recreational experiences for years to come. I am proud to see the community of Notre-Dame-du-Portage benefit from this program."
Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia
"The Government of Canada supports the projects of organizations such as this one by the Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, which mobilize and unite our communities. These projects strengthen Canada's communities, stimulate economic activity and benefit families and the middle class."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED
"The outdoor salt-water pool in Notre-Dame-du-Portage is an institution in eastern Quebec, and Canada Economic Development's contribution is key support for the Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, which can now carry out its project!"
