Survey: Cost Deters Many Canadians from Seeing More of Canada
Travelzoo Shows Travelling in Canada Can Be Affordable This Summer
TORONTO, June 22 /CNW/ - While eight in ten Canadians say seeing Canada from coast to coast is important, on average, they've only visited four provinces/territories outside their own. This is one of the findings of a new survey released by Travelzoo Canada, part of global Internet media company Travelzoo. (NASDAQ: TZOO). The survey also found cost to be the primary factor deterring Canada-wide travel, with 67 per cent of those surveyed agreeing that travelling within their own country is sometimes more expensive than going abroad.
"Travelling in Canada can be affordable, if you know where to find the deals," said Lara Barlow, country manager, Travelzoo Canada. "We are coming into the prime Canadian travel season, so our travel deal experts are focusing on publishing deals that can help Canadians see more of their own country," says Barlow. "In the past two weeks alone, we've featured hotel deals from coast to coast - from $79/night rooms on Prince Edward Island, to $159/night for rooms at boutique Montreal hotels that would normally cost $289, to Muskoka resorts at $200 off, to suites in British Columbia's Okanagan for $99/night."
Travelzoo has published a variety of summer travel deals for Canadians that is available now at: http://www.travelzoo.ca. Deals are constantly updated to reflect current availability, while additional offers are published as they become available. All of the deals selected by Travelzoo have been evaluated by the company's deal experts, and tested and verified at the Travelzoo Test Booking Center(TM).
The survey, conducted on behalf of Travelzoo by Leger Marketing, also provided insight on Canadian travel habits in relation to province. Notable statistics include:
- While eight in ten Canadians say seeing Canada from coast to coast is important, on average, they've only visited four provinces/territories outside their own. - Time and money aside, the Maritimes would be the number one Canadian vacation destination this summer, with 60% of Canadians listing Atlantic Canada as their top vacation spot. - More than half (53%) of Canadians living in Quebec say they primarily vacation within their own province, placing Quebeckers in the top spot for provincial-centric travel. - Canadians living in the Maritimes, the Prairies, and Alberta are the most likely to travel outside their own province, but stay within Canada (31%, 32% and 31% respectively). - 75 per cent of Canadians have visited Ontario, with Quebec and B.C. coming in at 67 and 57 per cent respectively. Northern Canada is the least traveled, with only 9 per cent of Canadians having taken a trip to the territories.
