MD ROCKY VIEW, AB, March 28, 2018 /CNW/ - Sundial Growers Inc. ("Sundial") has submitted an Expression of Interest ("EOI") to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission ("AGLC") as the company prepares to supply locally grown cannabis to the Alberta market.
"As an Alberta-based licensed producer, becoming a trusted supplier of cannabis to the Alberta market is important to Sundial," said Sundial's Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Stordeur. "We have a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory framework in Alberta and we are working closely with the AGLC to ensure our EOI meets their requirments."
As the provincial regulator responsible for managing cannabis in Alberta, the AGLC has the authority to carry out licensing, oversight and compliance functions for private cannabis retail sales and distribution. In the event that Sundial's submission has been approved and the federal system has been established, the company would supply product through the AGLC's distribution network. The network will include online sales and home delivery through a single website operated by the AGLC, as well as the retail network that is being established throughout the province.
"AGLC will play a critical role in Alberta as the provincial regulator responsible for ensuring the safety of Albertans and the distributor of cannabis through the online and retail systems," explained Stordeur. "Sundial sees itself as a long-term partner to the AGLC and looks forward to a collaborative relationship."
Sundial obtained its license to cultivate cannabis through Health Canada in June 2017 and is currently in the process of securing its license to sell. In the event that the necessary approvals are in place, the company looks forward to supplying its cannabis and cannabis derivative products to Albertans.
