TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - For 16 years, the Ontario Liberal Party has had a strong, determined leader in Dalton McGuinty. When he became our leader, our Party had won only one election in 50 years. Under Dalton McGuinty's leadership, the Ontario Liberals have won three elections in a row - a first for our Party in more than a century.
After transforming our party and winning the 2003 election, he set about to make positive changes to our province. And in the areas that matter most to families - their schools, their health care and their economy - his plan and leadership have positioned Ontario for decades of success. In each and every area, Dalton McGuinty and the Ontario Liberals have gotten the big things right.
Earlier today, the Premier requested that our Party convene a leadership convention at the earliest possible opportunity. He indicated to me that he believed it was time for renewal in our party, and for the next Liberal Premier with the next set of positive ideas to make our province stronger.
Tomorrow, I will be speaking to the Executive of the Ontario Liberal Party to begin the process of determining the timing and rules for that leadership campaign. Those discussions will take in account the need to move quickly to elect a new leader so that our government can continue to put forward ideas that improve the lives of Ontario families.
