Statement by the Prime Minister on Orthodox Easter
OTTAWA, April 8, 2018 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the occasion of Orthodox Easter:
"Today, we join people of Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic faith in Canada and around the world to celebrate Easter.
"Also known as Pascha, Easter is the holiest of holidays in the Orthodox Christian faith. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is a time to celebrate the triumph of life over death, and light over darkness.
"To celebrate, families and loved ones will join together to exchange greetings, share festive meals, sing, and attend Easter Mass.
"Easter is also an opportunity to give thanks for the blessings we enjoy in life. For all of us, this holiday is a chance to reflect on how we can make a difference in the lives of others, and show compassion to those in need in our community and around the world.
"On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those celebrating an Easter filled with renewal, hope, and peace."
