OTTAWA, June 4, 2017 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement to mark Canadian Armed Forces Day:
"Today, on Canadian Armed Forces Day, we thank the soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen who courageously defend our country's fundamental values and interests, protect North America, and contribute to international peace and security.
"Whether on military operations, peace missions, or during disaster relief responses, the brave men and women of our military always answer the call with pride, dedication and professionalism. In recent years, this has included responding to floods and wildfires, and welcoming more than 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada. They have also participated in the global coalition against Daesh, and helped train Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"On this day, we also remember the dedicated members of our Armed Forces who have lost their lives serving our country. We owe them and their families an immeasurable debt of gratitude for their sacrifice.
"This year, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation, let us honour our brave service men and women, who continue to defend the Canadian values of peace, freedom and democracy around the world.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I join with all Canadians to extend our most sincere thanks to past and present members of the Canadian Armed Forces – and their families – for their unwavering service. We honour all they do to keep the peace and protect our freedom."
