MONTREAL, April 7, 2016 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the occasion of World Health Day:
"Today marks the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO), and highlights the global responsibility to promote better health.
"Each year, World Health Day raises awareness about a specific public health priority. This year, World Health Day focuses on diabetes.
"More and more people are diagnosed with diabetes each year, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Together with the WHO, the Government of Canada is committed to ongoing efforts to respond to this disease.
"We all have a role to play in the improvement of our physical and mental health, and the overall health of our communities. When Canadians are healthy, they are happier, more productive, and can contribute more fully to our society.
"Today, I encourage all Canadians to learn more about diabetes, its widespread effects, and the steps we can take to halt its rise and lead a healthier life."
