Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the Canadian Screen Awards Français
TORONTO, March 9, 2014 /CNW/ - I was thrilled to take part in the Canadian Screen Awards this evening. Canada's film, television, and digital media production industry is made up of talented individuals both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. The Canadian Screen Awards Gala celebrated and honoured many of our most inspiring artists and creators in this field.
In 2012-2013, film and television production in Canada generated $5.82 billion in economic activity and approximately 127,700 jobs. Our Government recognizes that the audiovisual industry is an important driver of job creation and economic development in Canada. That is why we are proud to support this sector through annual investments of more than $600 million through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canada Media Fund, and tax credits.
I congratulate all of this year's award nominees and winners. I would also like to thank the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, the organizer and host of the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards Gala, for another successful evening.
