Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating Émilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel on Winning Canada's First Medal at the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games Français
LONDON, July 29, 2012 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Émilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel on winning Canada's first medal at the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games today in London, England.
Émilie Heymans, from St-Lambert, QC and Jennifer Abel, from Montréal, QC made their bronze medal podium finish in the women's 3m synchro diving event. This is Emilie's fourth medal in Olympic competition and Jennifer Abel's first.
Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of Émilie and Jennifer's outstanding performance. They have given our Canadian Olympic Team a fantastic start to the Games and has set the stage for future successes as we enter day third of competition.
I am thrilled to be present in London to cheer on our Canadian athletes as they compete against the world's best in sport.
Canada is a top sport nation, and each of our athlete's performances is a true reflection of our country's amazing athletic talent and national pride.
It is a great honour for me, on behalf of the Government of Canada, to congratulate Émilie and Jennifer on their achievements. Best wishes to all Canadian athletes for much success at the Games.
