The Government of Canada issues a statement to mark Lebanese Heritage Month
OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 1, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Heritage and Minister responsible for Official Languages, and the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, made the following statement:
"On this fourth official Lebanese Heritage Month in Canada, we celebrate the rich and enduring ties between Canada and Lebanon, as well as the significant contributions that generations of Lebanese Canadians have made to the cultural, social and economic vitality of our country.
Beginning in the early 1880s, the first generation of Lebanese immigrants settled in Montréal and Halifax, while building communities across the country. Over the decades that followed, Lebanese Canadian communities have kept their traditions and languages alive and have enriched our country's collective identity. As artists, entrepreneurs, scientists and community builders, people of Lebanese descendance have helped shape the Canada we know today.
These stories and experiences not only enrich our culture but also remind us of the fundamental values that unite us as Canadians: resilience in the face of adversity, generosity toward our loved ones and those in need, as well as the ability to embrace and respect our differences.
By celebrating our unique backgrounds and recognizing the values we share, we can build stronger, more inclusive communities where everyone feels free where they live. This is reflected in our government's commitment to combatting discrimination and systemic barriers, fighting intolerance and supporting communities through Canada's Anti-Racism Strategy 2024-2028 and Canada's Action Plan on Combatting Hate.
Throughout November, we invite everyone to discover the rich history as well as diverse traditions and cultures of Lebanese Canadians and learn more about their numerous contributions. We also wish everyone celebrating a happy Lebanese Independence Day on November 22.
Happy Lebanese Heritage Month!"
