Startup Open House launches 3rd edition, spreading nationwide across Canada's technology hubs
MONTREAL, Oct. 20, 2015 /CNW/ - Startup Open House is proud to announce that it will be opening doors starting October 29th for its third edition, to offer an insider's peek into startups redefining Canadian entrepreneurship. As in previous editions, participants will have free access to visit the offices of many startups in a city and connect with startup leaders.
With 300 startups and 5,000 participants in attendance across Montreal and Toronto in 2014, this year is gearing up to be the biggest yet with the addition of many new Canadian cities! The event will take place in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver on October 29th 4-7pm and in Quebec City and Waterloo on November 5th. Less than one month from the event, big players in the national technology ecosystem have already signed-up to open their doors. Frank & Oak (Montreal), D2L (formerly Desire2Learn, Waterloo Region) and 500px (Toronto) are but a few of the names on the extensive list of startups participating in the event.
Connecting the general public with startups across Canada
With a cumulative 100 million dollars in recent investments for Montreal startups Lightspeed and Breather entering the ecosystem in September, and Shopify's IPO in May, the past few months have been important for the Canadian technology scene. "The Canadian startup ecosystem continues to grow at an exceptional rate. I'm proud to have an event like Startup Open House here to help the public learn more about this thriving space and discover new opportunities," said Satish Kanwar, Director of Product at Shopify and one of the lead organizers for Startup Open House in Toronto. Shopify is one of hundreds of startups that will be opening its doors for Startup Open House. Startup community leaders across Canada, including HIGHLINE (Toronto and Vancouver), Communitech (Waterloo), and Real Ventures and Busbud (Montreal) are rallying to help lead the pan-Canadian event.
"It's a unique event that connects many major players in Canadian tech. I'm excited to see our communities working together to showcase our collective achievements," said Noah Redler, the Campus Director at the Notman House and the Montreal lead for Startup Canada, "If you've ever been curious to learn more about startups, to get a peek behind the curtain, I can't think of a better opportunity to discover the space."
The organizers of Startup Open House wish to thank their elite sponsor Amaya Inc. (TSX: AYA; NASDAQ: AYA), their prestige sponsor MailChimp and their support sponsors, the cities of Montreal and Toronto as well as Spiegel Sohmer for helping make this event a true success.
