BURNABY, BC, Nov. 30, 2016 /CNW/ - BCBusiness is excited to announce the magazine's third annual ranking of the "Best Cities for Work in B.C." in partnership with Environics Analytics. The booming Sea-to-Sky community of Squamish leapt three spots on this year's list to take No. 1.
Northeastern cities Fort St. John and Dawson Creek hold strong at No. 2 and No. 3, despite a weak oil-and-gas sector. Among the big gainers on this year's list were Kelowna, Kamloops, Pitt Meadows and Terrace, which all placed in the Top 10 for the first time ever.
Developed in partnership with Environics Analytics, the survey evaluated each of B.C.'s 36 cities on seven economic indicators—factors such as income growth, average household income, population growth and unemployment. This year, two new quality-of-life factors, shelter costs and spending on recreation, were also taken into account. Combined, these factors paint a picture of relative economic health in each community—and their relative appeal for those seeking work there.
