MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 1, 2015 /CNW/ - International aid agency World Vision Canada is grateful for the impressive generosity of the Southwestern Ontario region in the fight to end child poverty. Last week marked the end of the Campaign for Children, an opportunity for people in the region to help children waiting to be sponsored. Over the past two months residents of the Windsor – Guelph region sponsored 1,460 children, which will change the lives of these children, their families and communities.
Sponsors are providing access to education, health care, nutritious food, clean water and helping parents find economic opportunities so they can provide for their children.
"We are grateful to area residents for their commitment to sponsoring these children," says World Vision spokesperson Joyce Gonzales. "This is going to make all the difference in the lives of these kids and their families and communities."
- There are now more than 63,000 World Vision child sponsors in the Southwestern Ontario region.
- Through the Campaign for Children, almost 1,500 children were sponsored by people in the Southwestern Ontario region this Fall.
- Child Sponsorship makes World Vision's community development programs possible; providing communities with sustainable access to necessities like clean water, nutritious food, economic opportunity, health care and access to education.
- If every World Vision child sponsored by a person in the Southwestern Ontario region were put on a school bus, they would fill 875 buses; if these school buses were lined up they would stretch almost 113 km!
