Plan International Canada Global Ambassador joins group of passionate young leaders to discuss barriers girls still face in achieving their dreams.
OTTAWA, Oct. 4, 2017 /CNW/ - Today Plan International Canada Global Ambassador Sophie Grégoire Trudeau joined Plan International Canada President and CEO, Caroline Riseboro, and a diverse group of young women from across Canada for a critical discussion on gender inequality, barriers girls face in pursuit of their dreams, and ways to overcome them.
In the lead up to International Day of the Girl on Oct. 11, Plan International Canada facilitated this conversation to shine a light on the "dream gap" – a combination of barriers such as harmful gender stereotypes, negative perceptions, and discrimination that limits girls from accessing opportunities to fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams.
The roundtable featured activities focused on raising girls' voices to challenge barriers and bridge the dream gap, further empowering them as advocates for gender equality in their communities and around the world.
The event was part of Plan International Canada's #GirlsBelongHere initiative, which supports a diverse group of ambitious, passionate young women from across Canada to step into their dream jobs for a day to illustrate a girl's right to be seen and heard in places where females are traditionally underrepresented.
Roundtable participants included girls who had gone through their #GirlsBelongHere experience or will be stepping into high profile political and business roles in the upcoming week.
