SnapSaves and Ontario Association of Food Banks Team Up to Alleviate Hunger
Nearly 400,000 Ontarians access food banks every single month. SnapSaves has partnered with OAFB this holiday season to address this growing problem and has raised $20,000 in food product donations to date.
TORONTO, Dec. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - SnapSaves, a Toronto-based mobile and online coupon startup, has formed a community partnership with the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) to help alleviate hunger this holiday season.
SnapSaves is a top 10 Canadian lifestyle app that gives shoppers cash back for buying their favourite grocery brands, from any retailer, by snapping a photo of their receipt using the app or website. Upon reaching $20, members can request a cheque, or now, donate it to help families in need. SnapSaves features popular offers from brands including Dr. Oetker, Huggies, Natrel, Nordica and Spin Master Toys.
"According to OAFB's 2013 Hunger Report, the number of people accessing food banks in our province every month is alarming, roughly 400,000, equivalent to the population of London, Ontario. 131,000 are children under 18." said Daniel Warner, VP Strategy and Brand Partnerships for SnapSaves. "We're taking action to help families put food on their holiday table by making a company donation to OAFB and encouraging our members to donate their cash back earned on SnapSaves. We're also inviting grocery brands to donate food products - a true team effort. To date, we've raised $20,000 in food product donations and are quickly approaching our $25,000 goal. We truly appreciate our valued partners including Dr. Oetker, Burnbrae Farms and Arla Foods and look forward to expanding the program nationwide in 2014."
"For every dollar donated, the OAFB is able to acquire and distribute over $8 worth of food. This means that any donation, no matter what size, will have a huge impact in alleviating hunger this winter," says Bill Laidlaw, Executive Director of OAFB. "We truly appreciate the work that SnapSaves is doing in engaging their partners and members in this very important cause."
"Dr. Oetker Canada is happy to be donating to Ontario Association of Food Banks this holiday season. Giving back to the community and making a positive impact has always been a priority for us. We greatly appreciate all the work that OAFB has put towards ending hunger in Ontario," says Peter MacDonald Executive Head of Marketing at Dr. Oetker Canada. "We are glad to be working with SnapSaves in the coming year. Their approach of digitizing the traditional "clip-and-redeem" coupon is novel and we are excited to be at the forefront of this revolution."
