Smartcool Delivering Energy Demand Reduction Programs with Australian Utility Energex

VANCOUVER, Feb. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. (TSX-V: SSC) is providing its energy saving software and products to the world-class energy demand reduction programs run by Energex, one of the two dominant utility companies in Queensland, Australia.

Energex projects involving Smartcool in their suite of technologies include Dreamworld, one of the premier theme parks in Australia, and AMP Pacific Fair, one of the largest shopping centers in Queensland.  The projects cut annual energy consumption at Dreamworld by 680,000 kWh and at AMP Pacific Fair by 3,600,000 kWh.  These huge reductions in energy also represent significant cuts in carbon emissions, helping both companies meet their green mandates.  In both projects, Smartcool supplied the energy saving solution for the customers' large air conditioning chillers, package unit air conditioning, freezer rooms and cold rooms for food storage.

Demand reduction is of critical concern to utilities around the world as national grids grow older and in many cases are struggling to keep up with a rapidly growing demand for electricity from energy-hungry businesses and homes.  Surges in demand during peak times of day can be particularly difficult for utilities to manage, and expensive for end customers as they are subject to high peak tariff rates.  Products like Smartcool's ECO3 and ESM can automate the demand reduction process, lowering demand from air conditioning and refrigeration systems at all times of day.  This reduces the severity of peaks in demand, making energy management easier for utility companies and reducing costs for the end customer.
