Smartcool Announces the Appointment of Two New Directors
VANCOUVER, Jan. 19, 2015 /CNW/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. (TSX-V:SSC) is pleased to announce that Theodore (Ted) Konyi, Smartcool's Chief Executive Officer, has joined its board of directors as Chairman effective January 16, 2015. In addition, Craig Jolly has resigned his seat on Smartcool's board of directors to make room for the appointment of Dalton L. Larson, who was also appointed to the board effective January 16, 2015. The board of directors now consists of two executive directors - Ted Konyi and George Burnes (Smartcool's President) – and two independent directors – Bradley Nightingale and Dalton Larson.
About Mr. Larson:
Mr. Larson commenced his professional career as a full time member of the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia. After teaching law for five years, he went into practice as Counsel, becoming a partner in a major law firm in Vancouver, now Lang Michener. After some ten years, he left practice to become a full time arbitrator and mediator dealing with disputes in the labour relations, civil and commercial areas. As Counsel, he represented clients dealing with general civil matters, regulatory, environmental, utilities, transportation, general corporate, labour and employment disputes.
Dalton has served as President of the Arbitrators Association of British Columbia; he is a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators, Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the BC Arbitration and Mediation Institute. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Larson has been an active participant in the formation and strategic governance of several private and public companies. He successfully cofounded First Coal Corporation helping raise $65 million privately, eventually assisting in selling the company to Xstrata Coal for $153mm.
In joining the board of Smartcool, Dalton stated "I am excited to join Smartcool at this point in its development. While I have been aware of the company since its inception, the recent advances in the wireless controls environment will allow the company to leverage its technology and achieve scalability. I believe Smartcool is entering a high growth phase and I am looking forward to assisting the company."
