CALGARY, June 24, 2014 /CNW/ - SMART Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: SMT) (TSX: SMA), a leading provider of technology solutions that enable inspired collaboration in schools and everywhere children learn, joins Teq, a leading SMART channel partner to announce an agreement with the New York State Instructional Technology Contract Consortium  through 24 of the Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) of New York State to purchase  SMART software under Cooperative Service 6360. The first State-wide agreement of its kind for SMART and Teq, it enables more than 450 school districts, encompassing over 4,000 schools in New York State to purchase the full suite of SMART software from Teq at a preferred, pre-negotiated rate. The districts will be eligible for BOCES aid to help finance their purchases.

BOCES provides shared educational programs and services to school districts in New York State. This agreement with SMART and Teq allows districts to acquire the latest SMART software. It provides access to an unlimited subscription-based teaching, learning and collaboration software package, which includes SMART Notebook 2014, the latest version of the world's most popular collaborative learning software, SMART amp, a new and revolutionary web-based software platform that can be used on virtually any Internet-enabled device, and SMART Notebook Advantage, an annual maintenance and upgrade package that allows schools and districts to access a comprehensive suite of plug-ins, widgets, learning content and subject-specific add-ons while using the latest version of SMART Notebook software. The agreement will help New York State teachers and students take full advantage of all educational possibilities in their technology-enabled 21st century classrooms.

"We are delighted to reach this agreement with BOCES of New York State," says Greg Estell, President, Education, SMART Technologies. "Spearheaded by the revolutionary SMART amp, we are confident that our full software suite can play a vital role in today's classroom. We anticipate other states will pursue similar purchasing models in order to take full advantage of the rich package of software, content and services SMART can deliver educators."

"We are proud and excited to introduce the first unlimited suite of classroom collaboration software to the K-12 community," says Rob Sugarman, Owner of Teq. "We believe this product offers our customers tremendous value and the opportunity to expand their 21st century learning environments while increasing teacher effectiveness and student achievement."

In 1948 the New York State legislature created Boards of Cooperative Educational Services to provide shared educational programs and services to school districts within the state. Today BOCES partners with districts to provide a broad range of services that help meet the evolving educational needs of students.
