EDMONTON, Oct. 14 /CNW/ - A kindness movement is about to sweep the province as Servus Credit Union launches the Feel Good Ripple, a community initiative to inspire people to do something nice for someone. To kick-start the movement, Servus Credit Union is giving away $10 (while quantities last) to each person who wants to participate, and has pledged $200,000 to the initiative. "We are asking everyone in our communities, How will you use $10 to make someone's day?" said Garth Warner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Servus Credit Union. "If each $10 leads to an act of kindness, there will be 20,000 positive connections made. And if each of those recipients passes the feeling along one time, we could see a significant impact on the community."
Servus Credit Union is distributing the $10 bills at each of their branch locations across the province while supplies last. Anyone can participate in the initiative. Just visit a branch to pick up a $10 bill and pledge to use it on a Feel Good Ripple. The kind gesture can be anything the participant dreams up, like plugging someone's expired parking meter or giving a stranger a bouquet of flowers. "All credit unions are built on a foundation of community values such as sharing and supporting. The Feel Good Ripple is inspired by our commitment to these values and our commitment to building harmonious communities," said Mr. Warner.
Participants are asked to encourage the recipients of the Feel Good deed to perform their own kindness gesture to keep the Ripple alive. Servus Credit Union will provide participants with a Ripple Card to pass along when the Feel Good Ripple takes place. The Ripple Card reminds participants to visit the initiative website, feelgoodripple.ca, to add their kind act to the tally and share their stories of giving and receiving. Stories can also be shared in branch. "The simple gesture of buying coffee for a stranger can go a long way in building community spirit," said Mr. Warner.
The Feel Good Ripple reinforces Servus Credit Union's strong, cooperative beliefs. These beliefs are witnessed every day through Servus' member-owner structure, profit sharing and active service in the community. "We are more than financial services - our community contributions are as important as our financial services," said Mr. Warner.
Servus Credit Union launches the Feel Good Ripple on October 15, 2009 to coincide with International Credit Union Day, an annual celebration and opportunity for credit unions to further instill their cooperative philosophy of people helping people. Along with $200,000 in $10 bills and 20,000 good deeds, the Feel Good Ripple includes a contest to win one of 10 $500 donations to the charity of the winner's choice. Anyone over 18 can enter the draw, online or in-branch, and extra entries are given for every story shared on the website or in-branch. The contest closes December 1, 2009.

What is the Feel Good Ripple Card?
Each $10 bill given out is accompanied by a Ripple Card that explains the Feel Good Ripple. When a person uses the $10 to make someone's day they will give the Ripple Card to the recipient as a reminder for them to also make someone's day. The Ripple Card is intended to pass from hand to hand over and over as Feel Good Ripples continue to occur.
The Feel Good Ripple website is a forum for sharing experiences in giving or receiving kind gestures through video, photos or stories. A live tally will track how many Feel Good Ripples are created. There are also links to send invites to your friends and family via Facebook, Twitter and email. Users can also enter the Feel Good Ripple contest online during the contest period.
