NEW YORK and VANCOUVER, June 27, 2013 /CNW/ - The American Hockey League's championship series drew 15.8 million digital and broadcast views to the SendtoNews News Partnership Network™, according to Nielsen.
"Highlights of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs drove downloads and viewership on our News Partnership Network™ to record highs," said SendtoNews CEO Greg Bobolo.
The best-of-seven series featured the Syracuse Crunch and Grand Rapids Griffins battling for a historic first-time Calder Cup win. The Griffins won the first league title in their 17-year history on June 18, defeating the Crunch 5-2 in Game 6 at the War Memorial Arena at The Oncenter in Syracuse, N.Y.
"This premium content we have acquired, combined with evolving media consumption habits on digital screens, is propelling our viewership to successive landmarks. This is a transformative moment for the digital sports video market," said Bobolo.
During the Calder Cup playoffs the AHL uploaded highlight packages featuring goals, saves and hits to SendtoNews for instant distribution through its News Partnership Network™.
The series capped the AHL's 77th season. Having graduated more than 87 percent of today's NHL players, the AHL is the top development league for all 30 NHL teams.
