The Government of Canada marks National Coaches Week.
OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 14, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Honourable Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport), issued the following statement for National Coaches Week, which is taking place from September 14 to September 20:
"Sport has the power and potential to shape lives, build confidence and connect us in ways that very few things can. It strengthens our communities and helps build a Canada that is strong, connected and united.
At the heart of every athlete's journey is a coach. A coach sees far more than potential; they see possibility. They are the leaders who show up; step up; and give their time, energy and expertise to help others grow, both on the field and as people.
Coaches do so much more than teach skills. They inspire, encourage, challenge and support. They help athletes discover what they are truly capable of, move from reliance to resilience through setbacks, and celebrate every single breakthrough. Most importantly, coaches create accessible, welcoming spaces where athletes feel supported, safe and empowered to be their best.
To every coach across Canada: thank you. You turn goals into achievements, challenges into opportunities, and teammates into vibrant communities. Your leadership leaves a lasting mark that reaches far beyond the field, the rink or the court. Our country is stronger because of you, and together, we will continue to build Canada strong through sport."
