Seaforth grower receives the 2014 BASF Innovative Farmer of the Year award
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 25, 2015 /CNW/ - A decades-long commitment to innovation on his family farming operation in Seaforth has earned Wayne Cantelon the 2014 BASF Innovative Farmer of the Year award. The award, sponsored by BASF, is presented annually to an Ontario grower who promotes innovation and leadership in the agriculture sector.
BASF Canada presented Cantelon with the award at the annual Innovative Farmers Association of Ontario conference in London on February 24.
"BASF is pleased to recognize growers like Wayne for his contributions to the agricultural industry and to his community," said Stefanie Bech-Hansen, Innovation Specialist at BASF Canada. "Wayne's innovative nature and commitment to helping other farmers is what makes him an excellent recipient for this award."
Cantelon, who farms with his father, brother and son, has been experimenting with zone tillage for years in an effort to fine-tune the system they now use on a variety of soil types in Huron County.
"Agriculture is continually changing and evolving, it's the nature of the business," said Cantelon. "We utilize social media to work with other farmers to collectively build a better understanding of soil and crops and stay on top of what's next in the industry."
