SARAH THOMSON BIKE POLICY RELEASE - BIKE CITY
TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Please join mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson for the launch of her bike policy, Bike City. Thomson will end the so-called war on bikes and war on cars. Thomson wants to facilitate safer biking alternatives for cyclists who travel to work on arterial roads as well as encourage novice cyclists to ride in less trafficked areas. Thomson's plan includes over 1,000 kms of new bike routes and trails within the current spending commitment of the City of Toronto's Bike Plan.
Bike City will include new on-road cycling infrastructure, physically separated bike lanes, rail crossings, and highway underpasses. While the policy is very focused on providing the City with much-needed cycling infrastructure to connect our neighbourhoods, Sarah has also included ways to improve the City's walkability and reduce automobile congestion.
Sarah has had enough of ad hoc bike lane placements, such as the recent addition to Jarvis Street. Placing lanes without considering a larger plan is unsafe and will not help the City's overall transit planning.
Bike City will make Toronto's roads safer and more efficient for cars and cyclists alike with more reliable travel times for both modes of transit.
