WATERLOO, ON, April 2, 2015 /CNW/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced the introduction of new web browsing quality of experience (QoE) measurements aimed at helping Communications Service Providers (CSPs) understand the relationship between various network factors and the subscribers' experience when web browsing.
Sandvine's web browsing quality of experience feature is included with all Sandvine deployments, and allows CSPs to measure, in detail, the web browsing experience of their subscribers in both fixed and mobile networks, broken down by location, CDN, peering-link, device-type, user-plan, and other factors.
The feature dynamically builds a comprehensive library of profiles associated with a web page that is either popular with subscribers or otherwise designated as important by the operator.
Combining these profiles and real-time measurements made as web browsing traffic flows through the network, the solution examines more than 20 attributes for each page load and then translates these measurements into a web browsing quality of experience score (on a scale up to five) that corresponds to subscribers' real-world experiences.
These attributes can also be analyzed individually by the CSP in order to diagnose issues and to identify quality-related trends so that their subscribers have the best experience possible when browsing the web.
There have been previous attempts to approximate web browsing quality of experience by collecting and correlating data associated with subscriber behavior. These approaches fall short of Sandvine's implementation because they lack the most important measurement of all – page load wait time – which has been difficult to obtain without the network visibility and traffic classification expertise Sandvine provides CSPs.
"Sandvine has long provided CSPs with insight into video and VoIP quality of experience from the subscriber perspective. These new web browsing quality of experience measurements build on that insight so that operators can also understand and improve the numerous underlying factors that impact their experience when browsing online," said Don Bowman, CTO, Sandvine.
Sandvine's most recent Global Internet Phenomena Report revealed that web browsing traffic is the second largest category of traffic on most networks around the world, behind only Real-Time Entertainment.
